SAFETY AND TRAINING
Safety
Accident Prevention
Southern Management has dedicated personnel who assist our field locations in developing, implementing and maintaining effective safety programs with the goal of reducing employee injuries and accidents. Some of the tools that we utilize in our daily operations are listed below.
Safety Committees
We have numerous safety committees at our corporate, district and site levels who periodically review incidents that have occurred either within our organization or in our industry to identify causes and to discuss prevention strategies to avoid similar occurrences.
Hazard Inspections
Periodic walk-throughs of our storage, office and work areas are conducted to identify potential hazards and implement or develop strategies to minimize, if not eliminate, the potential hazard before an incident occurs.
Safety Equipment
We make every attempt to ensure that we provide our employees with the necessary safety information for the tasks they perform and reinforce the need to use proper protective equipment such as gloves, eye protection, hard hats, etc. We strongly encourage the use of footwear such as “Shoes for Crews” and other items to assist them at their work site as well as off-site.
Safety Programs
Southern Management maintains programs and other mechanisms to serve as guidelines in conducting employee training and development. We have specific programs designed for our equipment operators and drivers.
Safety Incentives
Our recognition program rewards employees or groups of employees who achieve safety and service milestones. Our programs are designed to recognize employees who go above and beyond to assist others. Plaques, a handshake from our President, Randall Steele, ceremonial awards and company outings are a few examples of the incentives we have in place.
Environmentally Designed Cleaning Solutions
We developed a standard chemical program that is uniform and easily recognizable in all areas of Southern Management. Our color-coded program provides an ease of understanding that streamlines our training process and includes the use of our pocket card system.
The above items represent only a sample of the programs that we have developed in our attempt to provide a safe and healthful work environment for our employees and you. We continually strive to develop and implement additional programs or revisions of current systems to reach Southern Management’s safety goals.
